I Heart Tulips!

They've arrived! My lovely tulips have started to sprout because of all of the gorgeous warm weather we've been having. This is one of my favourite signs that spring is here. I'm a bit worried that it will get cold again (as it inevitably does at least once or twice more) and that my tulips may freeze, but I'm hoping for the best.

Clearly we have some work to do to clear the garden. Please don't judge us! We have a massive maple tree in the front yard which, when we were looking at buying the house, was a total plus in my book. Now I realize massive maples have a massive amount of leaves, and these little helicopter-like seed pod things that just go everywhere. And then sprout. Very annoying. We'll have to take a weekend and clear out all the leaves and pod things that we can out of the garden. I'm thinking of looking into mulch as well, to try to cut down all of the little maple seedlings that sprout out of those pods. Do any experienced gardeners out there have any tips?

In the meantime, I am just happy wandering around my yard trying to find all of the sprouting tulips. It's like a treasure hunt! I've lost a bunch since I first planted them two years ago, because we have about a bajillion squirrels in the neighbourhood who very rudely dig the bulbs up and feast on them. I'm going to get more bulbs this fall and replenish my tulip stock.

Hopefully this means my daffodils will come up soon too!
