About Me

Nice to meet you! I'm S. I'm a wife, a first time mom, a foodie, an amateur gardener, a bookworm, a  music lover and a miniature schnauzer owner. I love coffee, singing along loudly to music in my car, watching hockey, and I love to laugh. I'm also a bit of a private person, despite being a blogger, so that's why I'm just an initial for now.

The Captivating Life started when I signed up for Pinterest and started seeing all of these gorgeous DIY projects, home renovations and decor ideas. It made me want to try to create the home I had always dreamed about - a beautiful space, inside and out, filled with love and laughter and good food. I created this blog to document and share all of the new things I was planning to learn and try - decor ideas, crafts, recipes, and tips and tricks for the garden.

However, as it turns out, I'm not terribly good at crafts, and while I still want to beautify the space around me, I haven't been very active about it (though I still hope to change that). I'm still not a very good gardener, despite my best efforts. What I did discover, though, is that I really love to cook, and I can be pretty good at it (most of the time). Lucky for me, because I have always loved to eat.

That's not to say I haven't always been fascinated by cooking. I loved watching the Food Network and seeing how meals came together. I just never really tried to cook before. Sure, I could turn on a stove and put some food on a plate, but what I made was always pretty basic and not all that exciting. When I discovered Pinterest, I was trying one or two new recipes every weekend. My style isn't to follow recipes to the letter, but to learn the process so that I can freestyle a bit, make a dish my own, and maybe even improve on it the next time I make it.

My love of cooking has grown so much just in the past year. I've learned a lot and have become so much more comfortable in the kitchen. That passion has also meant that a blog that I started with the intention of being a means to share what I learned about beautifying my home and being a better gardener and cook has turned into a food blog. While I am sure I'll still share the odd off-topic post if the spirit moves me, what I love the most is telling you all about the delicious food that I discover, create, and savour.

Along my blogging journey, I've also discovered an unexpected fascination with photography. Food blogging and photography go hand in hand, but until I started this blog, I had no idea how complex and how intriguing photography could be. I am now also passionate about learning all that I can so that I can one day take the kinds of pictures that make you just want to reach into the computer and eat what's on the screen.

I hope that this blog can be many things for you: a recipe book, a source of inspiration, a way for you to enjoyably spend some of your free time, or - if I'm lucky - all of the above. If you've made it to the end of this, thanks for sticking with me. As you can probably tell, I'm also pretty chatty.

If you have something to say, please don't hesitate to leave a comment, or email me at thecaptivatinglife {at} gmail {dot} com. Thanks for visiting, and I hope you'll come back often!
